From a young age, the desire to live and work with people from various cultures around the world was strong for Robyn and upon completion of her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication, she studied and worked in Spain for one year, while completing a TEFL certification program. Soon after, she was invited to teach in Chad with the Peace Corps, as part of a small group of people who opened (and closed) the program. In one of the world's poorest countries, in extreme heat, without potable water or electricity, Robyn taught English in rural secondary schools with minimal resources. In addition to managing classrooms of 100 students, she also implemented several community development activities. Upon an evacuation, Robyn transferred to Benin, where she completed another year of teaching. After four years of service, Robyn traveled by public transportation through Africa and the Middle East for one year, staying with strangers, learning about other cultures, volunteering in orphanages and schools along the way.

Moving back to the United States, Robyn commenced a graduate program in International Education (IE) in Vermont, taking such classes as IE Policy, IE Design and Delivery, Training, Evaluation, and Leadership. Eventually the beauty of the Pacific Northwest led her back to Washington State, where she began a rewarding career in International Education, advising international students on academics and immigration policies, managing student programs, and recruiting students in foreign countries.

After five years in higher education, Robyn returned to Chad where she engaged in public health and humanitarian work with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders and later the Carter Center. As the mission's trainer with MSF, she focused on building capacity in national employees, providing management techniques to supervisors, and setting high expectations at the MSF-run hospital. Later in her role as Senior Technical Advisor for the Carter Center’s Guinea Worm Eradication Program Robyn supervised hundreds of national and international staff in some of the toughest terrain in the world. Unfortunately, she evacuated the program and Chad due to COVID and has since been back stateside helping family with COVID challenges and consulting virtually. Robyn is looking forward to once again being part of a diverse, dynamic community and/or team dedicated to making positive change.

Philosophy

Robyn is truly a global citizen who loves people, views the world as her classroom and is committed to helping others. She has taken on many different roles, all of which required a high level of organization, insight, detail, stamina, and extremely hard work. She has had the opportunity to build several portfolios of different skill sets and is always looking to build new ones. Her diverse professional and cross-cultural experiences allow her to easily connect with people. She speaks French and Spanish, is knowledgeable about many cultures, is well traveled, and thrives in challenging work environments. She believes in the growth conflict brings and advocates empathy, as everyone could do a better job trying to walk in the shoes of others. She enjoys building teams and bringing people up the ladder with her. Robyn's professional goal is to use her knowledge, skills and abilities to advance the health and well-being of the communities she serves....wherever that may be in the world.
